Introducing: THE CAMBRIA CONNECTION!
Stevan Rosenlind (Left) and Berndt Stolfi.jpg

About the President:

Did you know, dear reader, that last year the Cambria Connection hosted 884 public meetings (8000+ individual hours) for people facing challenges related to mental health, substance use disorder, aging and food insecurity?

Let's look at some background of The Cambria Connection, where Everyone Matters....
In the 1990's, individuals seeking recovery had limited options, and residents often had to travel long distances to access meetings or services. In 1992, The Cambria Connection was established in response to a growing need for a local, peer-to-peer resource center to support those struggling with substance use disorder in the North Coast area. What began as a small recovery meeting space has grown into a multifaceted organization that partners with community members, local health professionals, faith-based groups, and community organizations.

This is where Stevan Rosenlind comes in and I had the pleasure of interviewing him. As Stevan progressed in his own recovery, he was drawn to be of service to others. He initially joined the Cambria Connection Board of Directors in 2008 and has now been the President for 13 years. Stevan lives by his life motto of: Got your back. The Cambria Connection is often asked to reach out by social services to assist in every way that they can.

With the onset of COVID in 2020 and the increasing scarcity of grant funds, many of the Connection's programs were curtailed or discontinued. Since COVID recovery, the Cambria Connection has been successful in reestablishing relationships in many areas including in the mental health arena and senior services. Stevan feels that his personal history helps when subtle questions need to be asked of the individual seeking help. Their person-to-person approach is directed towards getting the individual on the right track.

Currently, The Cambria Connection is working with Meals That Connect to share the needs of others and expansion is in sight for this program and others. The services provided by The Cambria Connection are available to the entire community and out of town visitors, all the time.

To contact The Cambria Connection, call (805) 927-1654 and seek out their website at thecambriaconnection.org.

Their email is cambriaconnection1@gmail.com. You will be treated with compassion and respect. You will discover a like-minded community and fellowship and a super support system for you and your family. Take that first step...

Introducing: CAMBRIA ROTARY CLUB!
download.jpeg

About the President:

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to interview the current President of Cambria Rotary Club, Andrew Boyd-Goodrich. Andrew has spent much of his adult life in Rotary Clubs, and he started out when he was in Half Moon Bay. He has been active in the Cambria Rotary Club for some time now and will turn over the gavel to the incoming President elect in June 2026.

Rotary Clubs of America is a global humanitarian organization, made up of local clubs, which bring together business, professional, and community leaders to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance goodwill and peace around the world.

Rotary Clubs engage in projects related to:

  • clean water and sanitation

  • disease prevention and treatment

  • education and literacy

  • maternal and child health

  • economic development

  • AND promoting peace.

Andrew is the young explorer student who studied theater arts in school, and held various summer camp jobs, preparing him for leadership positions.

Andrew's best experience in Rotary has been to create a slide show for the members, putting his own
personal spin on the subject of Polio. The slide show is extremely sensitive and thought provoking when one can witness how many leaders, politicians, actors and teachers have dealt with polio their entire lives. These survivors of polio are very instrumental in supporting the eradication of the disease in the world and continue to speak out to groups like Rotary to "not give up the fight". Rotary Clubs of America and the world have been instrumental in the fight against polio since 1988.

As the director of Camp Ocean Pines, Andrew is able to share his core values with campers of all ages, from all parts of the world! He encourages the young campers to try new things and Connect, Explore and Grow-- his personal directives for life. Group and team work are his very favorite challenges, teaching human traits, such as winning vs. losing. All in all, he is elated with a camper's response of "I had fun!".

About the Owner:

Located in the Garden Shed Shops 2024 Main St, in the Art With Judy Ann Studios, nestled in the back of the quaint garden labyrinth. For more info contact Judy at judy@terraaltha.com or visit our website at terraaltha.com

Judy started her business with Art by Judy Ann in Cambria and has had a Gallery for over 20 years.

Her first medium was stained glass and she was very successful until she developed an allergy/illness from working with the stained glass supplies. Before COVID, Judy and her daughter, Brandy, held art classes and the series “Workshop Mamas” was a big hit with locals and visitors alike!

Currently, in Judy’s location at the Garden Shed, her clientele consists of 90% tourist or first time visitor and 10% local residents. Clients and visitors come in for art, art advice, spiritual and holistic suggestions. Due to a health scare later in her career, Judy educated herself with podcasts, seminars, any reading material she could absorb, to find a “cure”.

Looking for an alternative to main stream medical directives led Judy to create a whole different experience and has named it Terra Altha Retreats.

If Judy were to outline her ideal client/member, she/he would be open to learning about healing techniques, be willing to share concerns, people on a spiritual journey or questioning beliefs. Individuals looking for deeper meaning, self awareness and interested in practices like meditation, energy healing yoga, and plant medicine would find answers with Terra Altha Retreats!

Introducing: Ball & Skein & More
e6582d_b4e53819ff214020a2a8ed04982e3df8~mv2.png

About the Owner:

Annie has a serendipitous story.  She worked for Amazon in the IT dept. and could work from anywhere, so she chose to move to Pacific Grove during the COVID years of 2020-2022.  Walked into the local yarn shop and the woman’s name was Ann and she had a Bernese mountain dog, named Bash.  Annie also owns the same breed of dog, and her dog is named Beverly.  A friend asked her to visit who resided in Paso Robles and told her that Cambria had a fabulous yarn shop called Ball & Skein.  She walked in and there was a sign on the counter that read: Would you like to buy a yarn and crafts store?  Felt this was meant to be ---  she calls it the Retirement Recon trip ; visited in Feb 2023  and signed transaction paperwork for the purchase in March. At that time, Annie was not ready to move and purchase a home here, so the original owners carried the store for her until October, when she was moved into her new home in Cambria and is here for good.  Different vibe for sure, and she feels she was always meant to do this. She kept the original name of “Ball & Skein and More”  because  why mess with perfection ?!

Some fun facts:

Building and working on her website is an on-going project and she is enjoying every new process!

Adding new classes everyday and different ways to assist her ever growing clientele.

Annie grew up in Baltimore, Md ( pretty far from any ocean) and learned to knit from her neighbor at 13 yrs. old.

All of her employees knit and/or crochet and they take different roles in creating perhaps the displays, organization of product and giving incredible advice to fellow knitters that venture in to the store.  Of course, lots of shoppers and visitors stop by just to see Beverly, the store mascot !
